Hello all,
I would like to find, or make, a skirt similar to the one worn by Rachel in this photograph: yogaandtheindigo.tribe.net/phot...01317
It looks like it's a lace skirt, or a skirt with lace on it, which is what I want for the costume I'm currently working on. Can anyone tell me if I can buy a skirt like this, or how I might be able to make one?
Thanks!
Tisha

Re: Making/buying this skirt
Sat, April 4, 2009 - 10:16 AMIt looks as if it may be two shirts worn together, with the top skirt pulled up in the front. The picture is a bit fuzzy so it's hard to tell, but what I described is what I do with costumes sometimes.
Hope this helped at least a little bit.

Re: Making/buying this skirt
Sat, April 4, 2009 - 3:04 PMI can't see the picture well. But here's a lace skirt I made - from inexpensive tablecloths. Most of the (cheap) tablecloths are white or off-white - unless you know of a way to reliably dye polyester. Then again, there are manufacturers out there that make colored tablecloths - but it takes the *inexpensive* out of the equation. ;-)

I have actually been thinking of doing that!
I can get a colored cloth for only $10 on sale here and was wondering if it would work. -

Sat, April 4, 2009 - 9:56 PMThat table cloth is such a good idea! I need a skirt for my upcoming 'fairy belly dance' performance and this could be it!

Sun, April 5, 2009 - 3:05 PMWow, that's very pretty! That's definitely along the lines of what I'm going for. I have some gorgeous lace fabric. I bet I could use it for a skirt. -

Mon, April 6, 2009 - 2:13 AMHere is a clearer picture of the skirt:

It balloons at the botton and it got a shawl at the hips, but there is no lace, it's more some kind of satin-like fabric -

Re: Making/buying this skirt
Mon, April 6, 2009 - 8:39 AMI think it's actually pantaloons and not a skirt and then there are two shawls layered on top of it. -

Mon, April 6, 2009 - 9:28 AMAgreed. Those are monsterloons with shawls layered over.

Re: Making/buying this skirt
Mon, April 6, 2009 - 9:36 AMYes, that is a different pic of it, you're right. The lace part I mentioned is apparently the shawl, not a skirt. I can definitely see that she's wearing pantaloons and not a skirt. I really love the layered look with the lace shawls. Maybe that's what I need to look for. I have some, but not in the colors I'm looking for. Anybody know where I can find lace shawls like that?
Thanks everyone! :) -

Re: Making/buying this skirt
Sat, April 11, 2009 - 4:36 PMyes, check the curtain section at thrift stores...you will frequently find the corner drapey pieces (theyre triangle shaped, usually have a gathered ruffle along the edge, too) that can be sewn together to make a hipscarf...mind you it will have a point at the bottom, unless youre crafty and do some rearranging!
this is one that ive made:
